Manchester Jazz Festival – what’s on for families?

The Manchester Jazz Festival is back this July and is spreading its wings across a range of venues, artists and performances for all ages.

My top 4 picks for families (and 1 for adults) are here –

Our Kids Jazzy Jungle Social is happening at the magical Town Hall 10am 30th July with all the wonder of an OKS event plus a live saxophonist quartet.

Our Kids Social will be bringing their unique family experience with Jungle dress up, silent disco, family photo frame, animaltatic arts and crafts as you and your nippers prepare for the fabulous Hillary Step Quartet. They will be bringing to life all of the arts and crafts you have made with OKS with their fantastic Jungle melodies than are sure to get your little ones grooving.

Get your dancing shoes on for a special Sunday morning mix of ska, reggae and jazz – let your hair down and let the kids do their thing to the jungle beats! Guaranteed fun for all.

Tickets are being snapped up quickly but you can get yours here!

Back Chat Brass in Festival Square – you can just turn up throughout the day 5th August at 12.30, 2 and 4 to enjoy the music.

There is so much going on at Festival Square throughout the festival – live music the whole family can enjoy, toe tap and boogy along with. If you can time your visit to coincide with Back Chat Brass, it will be a memorable family day out!

Our second drop-in event at Festival Square is Lucy Maye who will be performing Sunday 6th August at 2.15 and 4.15.

Lucy brings her own jazz-hop to the festival as she blends jazz with hip-hop and r ‘n’ b. With so much going on in Albert Square, it will be worth having a wander around with your little ones during the final weekend of the festival – soak up the sights and sounds, sit back and relax or join in and dance!

One for the adults – the fantastically unmissable New York Brass Band will be live and loud at Matt and Phred’s Friday 28th July starting at 9.30pm

If you can get a baby-sitter this will be well worth it as the NY Brass Band’s enthusiasm, talent and vivacity will ensure your Friday night is simply jazz-tastic!

Tickets here.

And finally – Join the Hillary Step Quartet and Prof Jigget on HMS Syncopation at Salon Perdu – the opulent Spiegeltent at Festival Square. The Spiegeltent has over half of the events for the festival taking place within in and tickets can be upgraded for a booth.

HMS Syncopation will take place on Saturday 29th July and tickets can be found here.
